Gerekest

Baron Leon Greencrest

Baronial Capitol, Barony of Greencrest, Dandria (Feudal Monarchy)

Symbol: Green field and iron tower (green and iron)

Capitol of Barony Greencrest

Terrain: Northern areas are tundra and increasingly rocky, with no arable land past the treeline of the Corinian Forest. The stone quarries here are few, but the gray stone carries a slight hint of copper, giving it a green caste.

Gerekest is currently occupied by humanoid and monstrous forces including Drow, Mnarrian orcs, giants, and at least one white Dragon. Roughly 5,000 of its citizens survived the siege, and those only because the forces controlling the flying mountain that led the assault allowed them to flee. The situation also resulted in the dishonorable death Baron Greencrest's father, Tarn.

Gerekest is the baronial capitol of Greencrest. Established as a small frontier town by Kvar Greencrest in 2788, shortly after Sevenar the Usurper conquered Dandria. The town itself was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries before Baron Tarl built a castle to defend it in 3605.

Gerekest is the primary trading location between Dandria and Diaun. Rare furs, meats, exotic weapons, minerals, and other goods inundate the baronial capitol. Combined with private mining forays to the Escarpment and regular harvesting of the Corinian Forest for resins and medicinal herbs, made Gerekest one of the wealthiest cities in Dandria.

Recent events, however, have changed all that. An army of unknown raiders in a flying mountain-fortress laid waste to the city. The current Baron and his family escaped under questionable circumstances. Baron Greencrest is currently at the capital, Lason, attempting to raise an army to destroy the invaders.

Gromthar

Baron Ylmir Kriegson

Baronial Capitol, Barony of Kriegson, Dandria (Feudal Monarchy)

Symbol: Brown hill and bloody boar spear (brown edged in dark red)

Capitol of Barony Kriegson

Terrain: Forest and hills in the east, rich farmland in the west. In the center north of Gromthar is a rocky, canyon region known as The Rough.

Although it is the smallest barony in Dandria, Gromthar provides about 10% of the total grain produced in Dandria. The tillable land is extremely fertile. Baron Kriegson easily feeds his entire population with plenty to spare. They trade a lot of grain to the hill giants of Batun in exchange for fish, furs, and other goods from the Corinian Forest.

The hills in the northeast contain a variety of metals (including tin, iron, and copper) and minerals, but the ore is poor quality. Mining is rare here, since other baronies have richer, more profitably mined, resources.

Tensions with Ralkstag are always high, with "bandits" raiding from both sides of the border. Open conflict is frequent. Gromthar also has a long-standing rivalry with the barony of Eastkeep. Competitions in a huge variety of skills, crafts, and feats of strength are held each year in either Vrostuh or Hillvar.

Hillvar

Trading Town, Barony of Kriegson, Dandria (Feudal Monarchy)

Symbol: Water well and helm (brown edged in dark red, with a slash of blue)

Terrain: Rocky canyons to the north and east (The Rough), farmlands to the south.

Hillvar is one of the two main trading partners of Wayrest, the other being Vrostuh. A shrine to Avaryan (Essea) is maintained here, and used by Caer Shalun as a staging area for its warriors. Like most trading towns in Dandria, the population of Hillvar is very diverse.

Hillvar is also the locale for an annual competitive faire between the Gromthar and Eastkeep baronies (Vrostuh is the other). The locals rightly pride themselves on "setting aside our differences with those fat, lazy, milk-sopping, troll-sons from the north" for the week of festivities. Since that local saying became popular, the citizens of Hillvar haven't started a single fight with any of their visitors on the first night of the faire. But, by Crom, they sure have finished a few!

Kaluin

Baroness Sedara Conarrion

Baronial Capitol, , Dandria (Feudal Monarchy)

Symbol: Yellow sail and dark green hammer (yellow with dark green)

Terrain: Heavily irrigated (from Lake Dyre) farmland in the south, very rocky in the north.

Kaluin grew from a small Ralkian freehold that was captured intact during the invasion of Sevenar the Usurper. Since it has grown into a free and open city that draws trade due to its mines in the north and its farmlands in the south.

Kaluin maintains watchtowers on the north side of Lake Dyre, in the far western corner of the barony (near Carstin) and on the edge of the Corinian Forest. These towers serve primarily as warning points and stopovers for patrols that the Barony maintains from taxes on Kaluin's trade. The Barons and Baronesses Conarrion hold annual tournaments during the early winters here, before the weather turns too harsh for travel. The Conarrion hospitality for the winners of these tourneys is without peer.

KARTHAND

King Glorim Aethelsoer

Capitol of Chakka-Luk (Clan Monarchy, pop. 100,000?/15,000? transient)

See also: Chakka-Luk

The capitol of Chakka-Luk, Karthand is built into a mountain. Warded by two huge gates of chakkur, the city has never fallen to invaders. Even stupid Dragons give it a wide berth, for the Dwarves have equipped this mountain home with the greatest weapons their nation possesses.

Langare

Baron Kelek Dorrion

Baronial Capitol, Barony of Dorrion, Dandria (Feudal Monarchy)

Symbol: Brown hill and bloody boar spear (brown edged in dark red)

Capitol of Barony Dorrion.

Terrain: Primarily gentle hills used for farming and grazing. There are few large population centers in this barony.

Langare, the capitol of Barony Dorrion, is built over the ruins of a Ralkian city, whose name is remembered only in the ancient archives of Greyslope Isle. Digging or construction here is always uncovering remnants of that lost place… and occasional dangers entombed when that old city was destroyed.

Like many cities in Dandria, Langare is a collection and distribution center for grain, livestock, metals, and minerals. The produce of the fields, herds, and mines (especially in the rich Gaumon Hills to the west) is brought here for the Baronial Treasurer's accounting. Surprisingly, theft and smuggling are rare here - especially considering all the wealth and material that flows through the city. Such is mainly due to the inherent honesty of Langarians. The citizens here pride themselves on their honor, fairness, and independence. That reputation serves them well, for Langarian traders are welcome throughout Dandria, and their wares eagerly sought. Many of the Greater Merchant Houses have sought control over trade in Langare, but the people, and the Dorrion family, resist their enticements totally.

Aware that covetous organizations might try to gain this valuable trade center by force of arms when bribery fails, the baronial family has turned Langare into a fortress. Each citizen is required to labor for one month of each year in building the city's defenses. Often, that labor is replaced by a tithe of items useful in the event of an attack - armor, weapons, food supplies, and the like.

Lason

King Senevar Gerrikson

Capitol, Dandria (Feudal Monarchy)

Symbol: Gold Crown and Black Sword

Capitol of Dandria

Terrain: Mostly clear farmland, with Lake Dandr to the north and hills (with rich mines) in the west.

Lason is the capitol of Dandria, and still holds much of its original Ralkian architecture. The original Summer Palace of Ralkstag was replaced with more Dandrian-style architecture long ago (though parts of the original are still present in out-of-the-way corners).

As the governmental heart of Dandria, Lason hosts a wide variety of services found nowhere else in the country. Restaurants and taverns cater to Dandrian as well as Elven or Dwarven clientele (though Dwarves still find themselves more at home here than most other countries). Smiths, miners, cattle ranchers, and farmers all come here in the spring, summer, and fall to conduct business, press their interests with the baronial chancellors or the king's chancellor. The Dandrians provide embassies for the Empire, Freelands (though it now stands empty), Ralkstag (deserted because of the war, but under very heavy guard to prevent looting and vandalism), and Chakka-Kandr.

Lykers

(Feudal Barony, Pop 800/200 transient) Lord Kellian Lykers

See also: Dalkhold

A castle that once stood guard over a trade route into Dandria, Lykers grew into a medium-sized town. The castle slowly fell into disuse when the Lykers family began building their estate on the edge of the town. Now, with the return of Teshar, the old castle is slowly being restored and the current Lord Lykers, Kellian, has taken up residence there.

People of Note:

Lord Kellian Lykers - An aging, wise man, Kellian Lykers was ill-prepared for Tesharan invaders and the emergence of old evils in his lands. He is struggling to hold on.

Meresport

Fishing Town, Barony of Corysson, Dandria (Feudal Monarchy)

Symbol: Gray-brown wave and gold-tipped red shell

Terrain: Primarily sheep grazing land with Vunmere to the south.

When the diversion of an underground spring created the shallow Vunmere, several rare crustaceans and shellfish from the Earthsblood found their way into these murky waters. Without predators, they quickly established themselves and thrived. When the Dandrians discovered an easy supply of these animals, so necessary for producing the valuable dyes used in Dandria and the midlands, Meresport was established to harvest them. When Blackbird Cove was established on the south shore of the Vunmere, outright naval battles erupted between the rival fishermen until the King re-established the baronial borders by force of arms. Meresport was left with the small, but richer, northern third of Vunmere.

Meresport is a wealthy town, rapidly growing into a city. It has to import the lumber used in constructing the fishing barges from Vrostuh and Hillvar, but the profits from the dye industry more than compensate for it. As a result, prices are much higher in Meresport than elsewhere in Dandria.

Myrkeld

Count Stefan Greencrest

Castle, Barony of Greencrest, Dandria (Feudal Monarchy)

Symbol: Iron hill and black sword (red hilt)

Terrain:Cold and rocky with sparse grass (suitable for goats). A few mines (variety of metals) and quarries.

Myrkeld is the primary training ground for all of Barony Greencrest soldiers. It is also the principle source of the dark gray granite used in most of the barony's buildings. The quarries are run primarily with prison labor. Indeed, the King of Dandria often sentences offenders to work these quarries.

Myrkeld's defenses are strong. It was originally built as the lynchpin for the baronial defense against Diaunese invasion. The castle's underground aquifers are endless (they feed Lake Dyre, after all), and it can easily flood any of the quarries in the region within a few days simply by opening the valves that regulate the aquifer's flow.

The castle, and town, metalworks are the most efficient in Dandria, powered by the high-pressure water from the aquifer. This is fortunate, since there is very little farmable or grazing land. Myrkeldians are famous throughout Dandria for their dour personalities.
